SIMEON'S PAPERS

SIMEON BRANCHE

Simeon Branche accompanied his father, Jean, to America in 1829.  While Jean later moved to Illinois, Simeon stayed, married, raised a family, and by 1860 owned two farms, one of which was adjacent to the railroad from Watertown to Cape Vincent. Simeon was born on Dec. 9, 1811 in the Commune of Freney, near Rosiere, France.  His parents were Jean  Branche Bourlier, aged 24 years, and Marguerite Jacquot, aged 25 .

FROM:   CHILD'S GAZETTEER OF JEFFERSON COUNTY:  TOWN OF CAPE VINCENT:

“The following family group descriptions are adapted from Hamilton Child's "Gazetteer of Jefferson County, N.Y.", published in 1890. The families are arranged alphabetically by township, and wherever possible, a link has been made to a Jefferson County Pioneer.

Simeon, the eldest son, came to Rosiere with his father, John, and still resides here. He married Ann, daughter of John F. and Mary B. (Barbelin) Bourcy, of Cape Vincent by whom he had seven children:

Margaret, Mary, Anna, Louis, Geneva, John, and Achille.

The latter, who was born in the village of Rosiere, married first Margaret, daughter of John and Mary Stumpf, and their children are Louis, Gustavus, Simeon, Mary and William J.

He married, second, Harriet, daughter of Francis and Frances (Cornaire) Vautrin and they have one daughter, Frances, and reside in this town.”

We believe that records indicate two additional children:  John and Anna.  Birth dates are approximate and unclear, but John may have been born last after 1849.
