WAS A MYSTERY
It appeared that Jean Louis must have left his wife, Marguerite, and some children back in France when he emigrated in 1829. Due to Kathy Branche’s intrepid and diligent work we now know that Jean Louis arranged for his wife, Marguerite Jacquot Branche, to come to America, probably in the 1830's. They lived in the house below until 1855 when Marguerite died. She is buried in the Rosiere cemetery.
Jean then moved west, first to Illinois, and then to Iowa, where he died. We will publish more when we have more records from Kathy Branche.
